Childhood cancers are the #1 disease killer of children in the United States – more than asthma, cystic fibrosis, diabetes and pediatric AIDS combined. Worldwide, every 3 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer. We run for them.

THON is a yearlong fundraising and awareness campaign for the fight against childhood cancer. These efforts culminate every February in a 46-hour no-sitting, no sleeping, dance marathon. THON’s sole beneficiary, Four Diamonds, not only covers treatment costs for childhood cancer patients at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital, but also funds innovative research to find a cure. Since 1977, Penn State students have raised over $127 million For The Kids. Last year, THON donated 96 cents of every dollar raised directly to Four Diamonds! As an organization, THON is inspiring a generation of young adults to get involved and take action, empowering themselves and their community. Each year, over 15,000 Penn State student volunteers dedicate their time and effort to THON, making it the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. Penn State students are united by their commitment to the cause – finding a cure for childhood cancer.

The Four Diamonds Fund picks up where insurance leaves off, enabling families to solely focus on care for their child. Assistance from the Four Diamonds Fund ensures counselors, social workers, music therapists and other specialists are available to provide comprehensive care in a family-focused atmosphere. Thanks to THON, the Four Diamonds and the Penn State Hershey Medical Center recruits world-class talent to continue innovative research benefiting children worldwide.

The mission of Alex’s Army is three-fold: To fund research with a focus on Wilms Tumor through world class organizations such as the Children’s Oncology Group; To raise awareness for ALL childhood cancers; and to bring Christian focused support and encouragement to the childhood cancer community through faith, hope, and love.

Since becoming a non-profit in August 2014, Alex’s Army has provided over $140,000 in research funding – this includes a $100,000 grant in 2016 alone to Children’s National Medical Center funding the REST Immunotherapy trial for patients with high-risk solid tumors including Ewing sarcoma, Wilms tumor, Neuroblastoma, Rhabdomyosarcoma, soft tissue sarcomas, Osteosarcoma and Adenocarcinoma. Alex’s Army participates in local rallies at NIH as well as hosts and participates in countless Childhood Cancer awareness events throughout the year. Bringing breakfast and gifts monthly to the pediatric oncology unit, they have provided over 500 care packages and over 130 prayer pillowcases to children and families fighting childhood cancers!

Alex’s Army is strong because of the strength and faith by which Alex lived his life and the imprint that he and all of these sweet children leave on our hearts.

It takes an ARMY to fight Childhood Cancer…
…TOGETHER we are Alex’s Army!
